Walk-in's are most welcome from November to August, however we HIGHLY recommend that everyone (including those who are 'just browsing' to 'fittings') to please MAKE AN APPOINTMENT at least 48 hours in advance. This allows us to staff appropriately, prepare suitable costumes & accessories, reserve change rooms & give you the exceptional customer service you deserve when renting with Victoria Costumes. We are busy year round and on occasion have large theatre groups and wedding parties fill up our store. Those with appointments will be fitted before walk-in's; please be aware that wait times can be up to two hours. If there is a line-up at our door and you have an appointment, please bypass those waiting to get in.
Please note that appointments are REQUIRED year round for MASCOT costumes, SUPREME EDITION STAR WARS, MILITARY, PIMP, KIDS & OUT OF SEASON costumes as they are stored at the other end of our building and need to be pulled out in advance.
To the delight of dress-up enthusiasts, Halloween (October 31st) falls on a Friday this year. Customers started reserving their Halloween & Masquerade Ball costumes as early as April this year. If you are looking to fit a large group, need a costume for the ball or want this year's most sought after theme, we suggest making an appointment ASAP. The sooner you make an appointment, the less crowded it is, the better selection there will be & the more time staff can dedicate to perfecting your costume. With close to 4000 costumes to choose from, our collection can be a little overwhelming for people who come in without any ideas on what they want to wear. We suggest browsing our website's COSTUMES PAGE & FACEBOOK ALBUMS first & inform staff when you make your appointment as to what theme or specific costumes you will be coming in for as well as the amount of people to be fitted. Due to limited space, we ask that only those who are planning on renting be in the store. It can become very crowded with extra staff & customers (not to mention the enormous hoops skirts) and we want this to be a delightful experience for everyone. (FREE) EXTENDED RENTAL HALLOWEEN 2014
To decrease pick up & drop off wait times for our customers, we will be extending our regular 4 day/ 3 night rental period to an 8 day/7 night rental period at no additional charge. This extension will apply to costumes reserved to be picked up BETWEEN the dates of:Tuesday October 28th through to Saturday November 1st, 2014. Any items returned after their due date (REGARDLESS of when costume is picked up) are still subject to late fees of $20 PER costume PER day. During this time will be open 11-7pm, 7 days a week for your convenience, please note appointments are NOT needed to pick up or drop off costumes.
Tue Oct 28th will be due back by Tues Nov 4th,
Wed Oct 29th will be due back by Wed Nov 5th,
Thurs Oct 30 will be due back by Thurs Nov 6th,
Fri Oct 31 will be due back by Fri Nov 7th,
Sat Nov 1 will be due back by Sat Nov 8th.
We will be CLOSED Sunday Nov 9th, and return to our regular hours after this date (please see our CONTACT page).
2014 MASQUERADE BALL
Tickets are already on sale for the 2014 Masquerade Ball (Saturday October 25th) at the Empress Hotel www.victoriaball.com. Since we specialize in Masquerade theme costumes and have an amzing selection of masks, wigs, tuxedos & evening gowns, the majority of attendees come to us for their ball attire. Fittings for Masquerade costumes require one-on-one customer service with fittings lasting from 30 min to 3 hours depending on the renter's needs. The sooner you make an appointment, the less crowded it is, the better selection there will be & the more time staff can dedicate to perfecting your costume.
-Appointments are REQUIRED, even for those just browsing.
-We have a MINIMUM $20 rental.
-Additional days (over our standard 4 day/3 night rentals) are $20 per costume, per day.
-late fees are $20 per day per costume.
-Wait time for pick up's & drop offs can be 5-20 min.
-We do not offer shipping or delivery services in October.
We take great pride and care of our costumes & ask that renters treat our costumes with the same respect (costumes never go on the ground and shoes must be removed when trying things on). Bags & purses are not permitted in the change room and there is a limit of 3 costumes at a time. Please ask for assistance with items on shelves & in drawers. All renters are REQUIRED to wear one of our wig caps when trying on hats & wigs.
Please do not attempt to put costumes back on their racks, our staff will properly re-hang and return costumes to their original location for you.
We reserve the right to refuse service and require renters trying on costumes arrive in a hygienically clean state. WE DO NOT ALLOW: pets, food & drinks, or strollers. Sorry we do NOT have a public washroom available.
We love kids, so much that we carry a selection of children's costumes; however, we suggest guardians AVOID BRINGING KIDS into the store unless the child is being fitted for a costume. Half the fun of dressing up is getting ready and we want this to be a stress free experience for you. Please note there are a few 'suggestive' pictures & costumes in the store. Children are not permitted to try on costumes and accessories for 'fun' & must remain with their guardian at all times. Guardians will be responsible for any damage caused and will be asked to return at a later date if the above rules are not followed. Unfortunately due to our extensive collection we do not have the room for strollers inside our store. Renters under 19 must be accompanied by an adult. Having a theme wedding, organizing a parade/community event or hosting a convention, dance or large party? Please email us at least 3 weeks in advance with the date, theme and approximate amount of attendees or costumes required and we can discuss offering your guests a discount when you include us on your invitation or poster. Best of all, each person you refer to us that makes an appointment & rents ($25+ before taxes), you will get a $5 PER person credit on your next rental. Victoria Costumes always welcomes costume and accessory donations to add to our ever growing collection. Items that we cannot use are passed onto local theatre groups so that they may enjoy them.
Gift certificates are available for sale, however the majority we have given out are donations to local fundraisers.
If you are looking for a donation for a charity event please email us your cover letter including all relevant information. On average we receive up to 15 requests a week and have a monthly budget to keep within. The earlier you get your request in the better the chances are that we will be able to make a donation. Requests usually arrive 1-3 months in advance.
Gift certificates are valid for costume & accessory RENTALS ONLY, they are NOT valid towards the purchase of sale items, payment of late fees, missing items, shipping, deliveries, alterations, custom costumes or model fees. Gift certificates must be presented at time of redemption and are not valid after the expiration date. Gift certificates cannot be combined with any other discounts or promotions. Gift certificates must be used in one visit, no cash or credit will be given for the unused portion.
Victoria Costumes hires out models & actors for all sorts of occasions & events. Costumed professionals are the perfect addition to Golf Tournaments, Business Openings, Award nights, Community events, Retirement & Kids birthday parties and even Wedding proposals. Popular requests include our vast array of Disney Princesses, Cigarette Girls, Marilyn Monroe, Vegas Show Girls, Elvis, Darth Vader, Elmo, Dora and many more. Victoria Costumes does all the recruiting, fitting appointments, cleaning, mending & payment of the models/actors. When possible we also arrange for back up models in case of cancellations. Model/actor rates vary based on customers needs: Average cost is $75 per hour per person plus the cost of the costume rental. We are happy to offer discounts for extended lengths of time, multiple model hires & also for charity events.
Fees take into account the models' time to:
- Come into our store for a fitting and to reserve the costume
- Return to pick up their costume closer to the event date
- Hair & make-up and character research
- Travel time to and from event location
- Costume drop off after the event

Victoria Costumes ships costumes within Canada only. Unfortunately we do not offer shipping during the month of October. Customers are responsible for arranging and paying for the courier of their choice as well as insurance amounting to the full replacement cost. We require a detailed email with costume choices, dates & renter's measurements.
If you would like us to package up costumes and measure & weigh the box(es) so that you may get a shipping quote from your courier, there will be $10 (+ tax) fee. This amount will be deducted from your reservation if you decide to rent with us. Our store address & hours can be found on our website's CONTACT page.
Please be aware that if the couriers arrive after our store is closed, customers will still be responsible for late fees. A security deposit will be charged for the full replacement costs for all items before the shipment goes out. The security deposit will be refunded in full if shipment is returned on time, with all pieces and in the condition it went out in. Customers are responsible for thoroughly checking all items & notifying us of any issues the same day the shipment arrives. If we do not hear from you on your delivery day we will assume all pieces are accounted for and without any issues. Charges will be made for any discrepancies when the shipment is returned to us.
Local Deliveries are available on the Peninsula and also within the Greater Victoria area. Deliveries and pick-ups are $25 (+ tax) EACH way, this payment must be made before delivery or pick-up is made. Sorry, we do not offer C.O.D. Arrangements must be made at least 24 hours in advance so we can arrange additional staff. We do not offer delivery during the month of October.
When renting a costume it is always helpful if you know the measurements on various parts of your body, especially if you are unable to come in for a fitting. We are currently in the process of adding measurements and a components list to each of our costumes on our Facebook page.
The following will guide you in how to properly take measurements. Please give the following measurements in inches:
Bust: Measure over the fullest part of your bust
Waist: Measure just under the ribs and above the navel.
Hips: The widest part which is approximately 9" down from the waist.
Height and weight in lbs.
Chest: Around your nipples.
Waist: Under your ribs, above the navel.
Shirt: Neck circumference
Height and weight in lbs.
Costume Rental fees range from $10-$150 (plus tax) for a 4 day/3 night period. The majority of our costumes are between $30-$55, while high-end and supreme edition costumes are at the higher end of the scale. We do not offer discounts for costumes or accessories used for less than our regular 4 day/3 night rate.
Rental prices are based on what pieces are included with a particular costume, the quality, and the cleaning that is involved. We do all the cleaning, so if a costume requires dry-cleaning this cost has already been factored into the rental fees. All of the costumes in our store are tagged with the rental price and list all components included with the costume. Any unlisted/optional accessories renters wish to add are an additional fee.
Accessories range in rental fees: Hats & Footwear $10-$25, Wigs $10-$75, Gloves, Purses, Swords, Guns, Ties, Belts, Jewelry, Glasses, etc... unless otherwise priced differently are $5 each to rent.
We have a MINIMUM $10 rental per person.
During OCTOBER there is a MINIMUM $20 rental per person.
We do not offer discounts for 'parts' of a costume set not taken/needed.
Changes to our costumes can only be done by our in-house seamstress who can assess if a costume can successfully be altered or not. Each costume will be assessed on a case by case basis, generally hemming pants & skirts is a $10-$20 (+ tax) charge depending on the work involved. Our seamstress is also available to make custom costumes. Regular rental: 4 days / 3 nights ($10-$150 per costume)
One Week rental: 8 days / 7 nights (regular rental fee plus 50%)
Two Week rental: 15 days / 14 nights (double the regular rental fee)
Each additional day is $10 per costume. Please inquire if an extended rental duration is needed. During OCTOBER additional days are $20 per costume.
If your return date falls on a day we are closed (Sunday or a holiday) your return will default to the next business day at no extra charge.
To reserve costumes and/or accessories, rental fees must be paid in FULL. In-store renters must initial their invoice confirming they have read, understood & agree with all of Victoria Costumes' policies. Reservations can be made over the phone, however we recommend renters try on the costume(s) first. To finalize your reservation we REQUIRE an email verifying that renters agree with our policies and give Victoria Costumes permission to charge their credit card. A reservation will not be made until we have received written confirmation. We will then send you a confirmation email with your invoice number, pick-up & drop-off dates. This email is to confirm I have read, understand & agree with all of your policies and give Victoria Costumes permission to charge my credit card for my rental. I understand that this reservation has now been finalized, and if I am to cancel I will receive a 50% credit towards my next rental which is valid for one year. I also understand that if I am to change my reservation dates there will be a $10 (+tax) fee PER costume charged to my credit card. I also give Victoria Costumes permission to charge my credit card for any missing or damaged items as a result of my rental. I am aware of your business hours and understand my credit card will be charged if my rental is to return late. I will also notify Victoria Costumes in advance if someone other than myself will be picking up my costume(s).
Once a costume has been reserved we offer a 50% CREDIT on all cancellations. This credit is valid for one year from the original reservation date. After one year this credit will be null and void.
Credits are valid for costume & accessory RENTALS ONLY, they are NOT valid towards the purchase of sale items, payment of late fees, missing items, alterations, shipping, deliveries, custom costumes or model fees. Credits cannot be combined with any other discounts or promotions. Credits must be used in one visit, no cash or credit will be given for the unused portion.
Please note that once costumes or accessories have left our premises, NO credits will be issued. It is Victoria Costumes' strict policy to thoroughly clean all items, even if they are reported as 'not worn'.
On occasion events & parties are postponed or customers mistakenly give us the wrong dates. Date changes will have a $10 (+ tax) PER COSTUME fee applied to cover staff in pulling all pieces, researching overlapping rentals, changing paperwork & dates on each reservation tag and putting everything back. The new pick-up date must be within 15 business days (3 weeks) to be applicable, or it will be considered a cancelled costume (which we offer a 50% credit for). Please read the CANCELLING A RESERVATION section listed above for full details.
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Debit & Cash. We do not accept American Express or personal cheques. ID is required for those paying with credit cards. Please note we have a small amount of cash on site as most people pay & secure their deposit with a debit or credit card.
All rentals require a security deposit which amounts to the full replacement value of each costume and/or accessory. This value is determined by Victoria Costumes and takes into account cost of replacement, shipping/handling, duty/taxes and our time to locate a replacement. Lost or damaged items will be charged accordingly before the security deposit is returned. We prefer a credit card number for the deposit, however debit or cash is also acceptable. No charges will be made on credit card deposits and cash deposits will be returned in full if rentals are returned on time, with all pieces and in the condition it went out in.
When picking up your costume please bring your invoice. If you have made your reservation over the phone please have your invoice number ready. If someone else is picking up your costume please notify us in advance to make arrangements. Please be aware that although this person will be signing the rental agreement on your behalf, your security deposit will be charged for any discrepancies.
Please allow 5-10 minutes when picking up your rental, during OCTOBER 5-20 minutes. Renters are responsible for thoroughly examining their costume & accessories for any wear & tear, rips, burns, faulty zippers, etc... and REPORT all issues on the RENTAL AGREEMENT.
The back side of our rental agreement lists all the packing materials renters are taking with them including hangers, garment covers, wig caps, hat boxes, etc... All listed items must be returned or there will be replacement fees (plus applicable taxes) owing. Any missing pieces will be charged upon costume return and a REFUND will be issued if our property is returned within 4 business days.
Using the Rental Agreement as a reference, your costume & accessories will be THOROUGHLY examined. Charges will be made for discrepancies such as rips, burns, stains, broken zippers, etc... (See Rental Agreement above for details).
Costumes can ONLY be returned DURING scheduled business hours (see website's CONTACT page). Under no circumstances can costumes be left outside the store or with neighbouring businesses. If the store is unexpectedly closed during our scheduled business hours please call 250-896-0781 to make arrangements.
An agreed upon return date will be determined when costumes are reserved; items returned after this date (REGARDLESS of when costume is picked up) are subject to late fees. Late fees are $10 PER costume PER day. In OCTOBER late fees are $20 PER costume PER day.
Due to high demand, late fees on Holiday rentals (Christmas & Easter) are the FULL rental amount PER day PER costume.
Costumes and accessories may not be hemmed, taped, stapled, dyed, painted, glued, cut or permanently altered without the written permission of Victoria Costumes.
Persons failing to return rented merchandise may be charged with theft under applicable local laws. The renter agrees to pay any and all court and collection costs and attorney's fees associated with late or un-returned costumes or accessories.
Victoria Costumes shall incur no liability to renter for accidents, injuries, or other losses caused directly or indirectly by use of any costume or accessory.
Victoria Costumes reserves the right to deny rental of any costume or accessory.
